Habit #5 – Cleaning Your Home

Curated Content

Dr. Stephen Covey has noted the following:

“If I were to summarize in one sentence the single most important principle I have learned in the field of interpersonal relations, it would be this: Seek first to understand, then to be understood.”

Many people, it seems, seek first to be understood. People, after all, want to get their point across. However, there is a problem with this; people may completely ignore the other person, pretend that they are listening, or selectively hear only certain parts of the conversation. By not listening carefully, people miss the meaning the other person is trying to convey. So why does this happen? Because most people listen with the intent to reply, not to understand.

Here is a blog post from A Clean Vision that explains how home cleaning relates to this bad habit of many people. They seek to be understood rather than to understand. Can this bad habit be turned into a good habit – seek first to understand?
